Tutorial #05

PS tutorial for a Supernatural icon from my last batch, as requested by

lucius_admirer!

[01] This might sound odd but to begin with we're going to work on the cap and not turn it into a base just yet! So we start with our cap:

[02] Duplicate your image twice and set both to screen at 100% opacity.

[03] Adjust the saturation of the second screen layer to 45 (Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation)

[04] Make a new layer filled with #010F2D and set to 100% exclusion

[05] Create another new layer, fill with #9BD9F3 and set to 60% colour burn

[06] Make a new layer filled with #E7D8C7 and set to 100% colour burn

[07] Make a new layer filled with #E4E4E4 and set to 100% colour burn

[08] Merge all your layers. Crop and resize as desires to make your icon.

[09] Take this light texture I made and set to lighten at 50% opacity

[10] Next take this pink blob that's become oh so popular and set to screen at 100% opacity

[11] Finally to add the finishing touch take a circular brush [#838282] and set it to colour burn. Now just add text [Violation, 12pt] with a drop shadow.

*head tilts, examining your header* Is that the boy who used to play Eric Brady on Days Of Our Lives? I think it is....I had no idea he had gone on to do anything else. Huh.

Yup indeed it is, never watched Days of Our Lives myself but I know he was in it. He's done quite a few things since [Jensen Ackles @ IMDB.com ] he's currently making waves with the new show Supernatural on the WB - it's in its first season, good stuff.

are you using psp? because if you are, Burn give a very similar effect. i used it, and my image turned out with the same (or at least very close) coloring to the coloring of the finished icon the maker had.

Nope, I use Corel Photo Paint 8. (kinda old-ish but works great). :)

Well that's no good! No burn *sigh* hopefully some of the other steps can give some ideas though. In place of the burn layers maybe a couple of the base set at soft light?? The colouring would be different but if you played with the colour balance perhaps...
